Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.7.8 w/ Vista Extender Support

Previously i was using a "cloned" license.  So i went to "entender setup reset", and exited out of the app.  When i went back in i went the "get a new license" route.  After re-initializing the player about 5 times i gave up.  It seems (for me anyway) the neither the "cloned" nor the "new license" method have worked.

By the way, i don't have any antivirus, but i do have ffdshow.  I have yet, however, to see ffdshow pop up when im trying to view a watch now.

Thanks again for all the hard work Eric!

    Hi,

Have you considered signing up as a Netflix Affiliate?  I am going to sign up now for Netflix because of ths plug in, and i would love to send it through you so you get your $9, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who is doing so!

    Thanks,

    Roy

I never thought about that, I wrote the program for myself before I decided to share it ... I'll look into it.

    Thanks,

    - EricL

FYI ... I did looked at this - too many restrictions, I think (I'd probably need to get a lawyer to translate all the legal jargon, and they want you to sign some contract =).

I am not really trying to do it at the same time just trying to beable to use it on my media center when I am in the living room and when I am in the bedroom would like to be able to watch on the 360 in there

Then cloning is probably what you want ... in which case you will have to go though the process to re-initialize the movie player each time you switch from playing a movie on the VMC PC and playing a movie on the Extender (and visa-versa).  I've tried to make this more automated by providing a prompt if it has trouble playing a movie on either the VMC or the Extender.

Once you go the "licensed" route, you cannot easily go back to cloning (this is to prevent you from accidently "wiping" a new license).

Which netflix package do you have?  If you have the "1-disc" package, it definately won't work w/o cloning - they limit the number of PC licenses based on the package you choose.

Yes this is exactly what I am trying to to but on the vmc it will not reinitialize it just wants to obtain a new licence every time after I have cloned to the 360 it will reinitialize on the 360 though and ask to clone again which is fine but every time I do that I have to obtain a new licence on the vmc

You will get messages on the VMC that do not get shown the Extender (the Extender player is more limited on what it will and will not show).

    Couple questions:

    1) On the VMC, if you wait a few seconds (8-10) after getting the "obtain new license" message you should get a popup indicating that there was an unknown error when attempting to play the movie - it asks if you want to re-initialize the movie player.  Are you getting this message?

    2) What are the steps you are going though on the 360 in which it is asking you to clone again?  You should not have to do this, if you play the movie and it fails, you should get the same popup in #1 above asking if you want to re-initialize.

on the 360 everytime I open the vmc netflix app after running it on my vmc before it even loads to the main screen I get the popup asking if I want to clone the license or obtain a new one. on the vmc I do not get the popup you suggest it just tells me it needs to obtain a new license to play the content

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.7.8 w/ Vista Extender Support

Boy is my face red... i just tried to load a "watch now" moive through IE7; i had to upgrade my my viewer, as well as a new media player component.  Also, during the viewer upgrade, a window poped up saying that something was tring to load ffdshow, and it asked if i want to allow it.  I chose the "never" radial button.  After this it worked perfect.

    My bad Eric!

No problem, I'm just glad to hear it's now working for you.

Also, I had to upgrade the media player this morning as well.  Netflix must of have applied an update last night.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.7.8 w/ Vista Extender Support

Working great on my Vista PC, but I'm getting the codec error on the XBOX 360.

Any steps to get this working will be appreciated!

In my case I have Microsoft Expression Encoder installed - could that be interfering?

I would not expect the encoder to be interfering ...

First question, did you setup the extender to clone the license from the VMC PC?

Assuming you cloned it, you might try installing ffdshow ... this will cause the extender setup app to try a bit longer, some folks have had success with that.  In the next release I'll add support to allow extending the wait time though the settings.

If that doesn't work, can you send the following log file to vmcNetFlix@gmail.com

    C:\Users\Mcx1\AppData\Local\Temp\vmcExtenderSetup.log

    Thanks,

When you first ran the vmcNetFlix app on the Extender, you should have got a popup asking something about if you wanted to clone the license from the VMC PC or have it allocate a new license.
