Re: DVD Library coming to an Extender near you

I've seen that in the registry, but was hesitant to change it.

Edit: Referring to the directory depth comment

Edit#2: I just bumped it up to 6. No difference. And thats to be expected. I can see the files if i go through the Video Library. WMC just doesn't recognize it as a valid dvd setup i guess.

Re: DVD Library coming to an Extender near you

I tried copying my movies directory to C:, thinking that there might be something odd about referencing a H: for dvd's.... WMC found 4 other files when adding, but still no-show on the dvd section.

Re: DVD Library coming to an Extender near you

I have several extenders. I can use them all at the same time, but only one of them can access the changers or other physical DVD drives. Whichever extender opens the DVD Library first gets exclusive access until the extender session is closed. I believe this is why the physical drives cannot be seen on the extenders in UAC mode.

If you only have ripped discs stored on hard drives, then you can watch any movie on any extender, all at the same time.

With my transcoder dll, you can select the audio track by changing "-alang en" to "-alang fr" in the arguments section of the transcoder control panel.

I was thinking about adding a pulldown in the control panel to make this easier.  Would anyone be interested in that?

Re: DVD Library coming to an Extender near you

I am using only ripped DVD on hard disk. My first extender works great, the second one sees the DVD Library but don't see the movies. Both extender are at the last firmware version. The one that works is cabled, the one that doesn't work is wireless but I do see my music and can play it so it's not a wireless issue. I am watching the movie folder.

Which version of transcoder.dll should I be using ? Could this be the problem ? Should I register the transcoder a second time on another key for the second extender ?

This is for a Vista Media Center. I am using a wvx file with a single mpg with a VIDEO_TS.IFO dummy file. Any help would be appreciated.

Vader, if this works you make my day !!!

Actually I have to go thru a 3 step process to get the french soundtrack with my extender. Can you give me more info on where to get this transcoder.dll and how to install it.

P.S. If you come to Montreal let me know and I pay you a lunch !!! (or can I donate somehow?)

    Thanks

Re: Would you like to stream DVD's from your changers too?

    Vader504,

I have your solutions working, very nice work.

I have 2 Sony changers, I see the contents on the VMC PC, but only see the two dvds loaded in the drives on my extenders under DVD Library. How do I get the othet discs in the Library to show up on the extenders? (2100 & 360s)

    Thanks!

Re: DVD Library coming to an Extender near you

You should look for a file named ehshell.crash in the windows\ehome folder. When Media Center crashes it usually puts the reason for the crash in that file.

In my experience, crashes are generally due to permissions problems. Make sure every extender user (mxc1...etc.) has full access to the transcoder cache folder, and the dvd library folders.

In your case though it could be a 64-bit issue. I have never tested it with that. Perhaps someone else here has?

Re: Would you like to stream DVD's from your changers too?

I've only seen that happen in two cases. One is when another extender or the media center pc has already accessed the dvd library. Acces to phsical drives is on a first-come, first-serve basis, so whoever sees it first locks out the other users. If you close the other sessions and restart the extender session, you should be able to see the other discs in the changer.

The other case is when UAC is turned on. This seems to prevent the extenders from being able to lock the resources, so only the PC cn see them. If you turn UAC off this problem will go away.

Hi Vader, I just tried your solution and it's working great. Thanks a lot.

For your question, yes I would appreciate being able to select the language directly from the control panel. I'm going to push my luck and ask you if it would be possible to select the language from a transcoder configuration file in each movie folder ? With the language option being available there I could select english or french per movie. This would be great.

Of course it would be better to be able to select the language from the remote but I don't think it's possible.

Thanks again your work is very much appreciated.

Hi, My system is a Vista 64 bits and it's working fine with Vader transcoder (V 2.0).

Re: DVD Library coming to an Extender near you

The changes are all security related. I noticed several errrors when running with UAC turned on, so I decided to fix them. You still can't share physical drives with UAC on, but everything else works now.

The only other significant change (which I think I put in 1.9), was adding a setting to limit the number of items in the cache. I got tired of cleaning it out manually.,

Anyone who upgrades to this version should follow all the steps in the readme. Some of the changes were pretty significant, like registry keys changing locations.

Re: DVD Library coming to an Extender near you

    Hi Vader,

Just installed and the DVD Library shows up on both extenders (DMA2100 and HP 280N). I am running into some odd problems. Any DVD that I made in Nero seems to play fine, however most ripped DVDs will just run their opening video and then go to "Finished". Is there a way to change this or does everyone just rip main movie?
