    Hi Parm,

apparently the beta process is already underway, so I would guess that its not possible to sign up anymore.

Seems like a leak has happened somewhere on Fiji...

I haven't tried this as from reading the comments it expires next month and I want a stable system.  However, the key feature that people seem to be using is DVB-S with HD support.   BBC HD was working from within Media Center.  Seems that there are lots of bugs and pieces to be improved but from the screenshots that people have posted I am eager now for the final release when I will finally be able to make good use of my 4 DVB-T and 2 DVB-S tuner setup!

from the gallery at that link it sure does look like h.264 in some form may be inlcuded.... would go against everything ben has seen/been said to him about no mpeg4 support here.

With more and more camcorders using AVCHD, I hope the new Media Center supports that format, especially all the dirative file extensions that come along with AVCHD: i.e. MTS, M2TS, MPG, etc.

Re: Do you want to beta test the next version of Media Center?

Interesting thread and nice pix of prerelease Fiji.

Some points I found interesting were:

No H.264 support on Media Centre Extenders / Xbox 360 which isn’t really surprising IMO. I wouldn’t be surprised if only the new breed of Extenders supported H.264 (HD) with Fiji. Then again it would be wise IMO not to repeat the v1 extender debacle so you never know.

    And

“.WTV” file extensions are now used for RecordedTV instead of dvr-ms. Or at least that was the case with that older build.

I don't want my Media Center systems Sweeded.... ;-)

But after a year and a half of testing and development, this Feature Pack better have something interesting in it for everyone. That means a little bit of HD, a little bit of music, a little bit Monica, whatever.

Here some more info about new features of Media Center. It seems as though it has been released but only by OEMs.

It still early so hopefully this news isn't complete as I'd hate to see a repeat of the Media Center 2005 OEM update fiasco.

Re: Do you want to beta test the next version of Media Center?

Its funny, Microsoft gives it to the people who don't care/or know it exists. Meanwhile, we who have waited, and drooled over what it might do when released sit and wait. It almost seems like Microsoft wants to kill off the enthusiast.

Re: Do you want to beta test the next version of Media Center?

I used to be a very big proponent for Vista, installing 1000's of pc's a year and a couple hundred eHomes.

I have given up on Microsoft.

If they don't want to state their plans for the long haul, I have no intention of installing their eHome products any longer.

People in South Tampa have a lot more money and could get a hell of a lot better system for their money. Especially one that I can provide to them with more benefits such as HD.

    Thanks.
