Re: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
pyrofallout:OK. I was looking for the AutomatedDVR Conversion 1.3. Wasn't that what this topic was about? Unless they changed the name or something?
Yes - that kind of threw me too.
I have been a user of VideoRedo for a lonmg time and yes, it is really powerful. I use it a lot as part of the authoring process to make HDDVD disks
The only thing is that it can not deal with protected DVR-MS files.
I assume that is also the case with "AutomatedDRV Conversion" ?

Re: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
Heimiko, it sounds as if lots of users are having success with your utility. I have been using PCs since 1988, but am new to DVR-MS. I have not been able to get your program to work. I am running Vista on an HP m7750n 2.6 GHz Athlon 64 dual core system with 2GB and 400 GB HD. First I got the message that "DS filters could not be added to the graph". Then I saw your post about regsvr32. When I tried that, I got the message "The module “dump.ax” was loaded but the call to
DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005." I looked that up and lots of users seem to get that for a variety of reasons not related to any .ax file. My vista machine has all the updates but a lot of my other software will not run in Vista, such as Pinnacle Studio 9, my scanners,, my MP3 software, etc. I tried to install DVRMS toolbox, but apparently the .net framework in my vista machine is incompatible with DVRMS toolbox. It is looking for 1 dot something and my machine has 2 dot something. When I could not get your program to run, I tried the AVS product. It took MORE THAN four hours to convert a one hour "dancing with the stars" to MPEG. Then it took all afternoon, evening, and into the night to recognize scene changes. Finally, when I tried to edit out the commercials this morning, the program locked up. It had locked up on another attempt of a short file previously. Obviously, AVS is incompatible with vista. If it can't do a one hour TV show, it will not do a three our movie. Meanwhile, I copied the above MPEG to my XP laptop and let Pinnacle Studio detect scenes. It took hours and hours for this one-hour dancing with the stars video and then it crashed. Neither Studio nor WMM works well with external MPEGs. One of your posters mentioned Video ReDo, which seemed like the answer to all my problems. I downloaded that, and though the commercial editing is very intuitive and the program runs very fast (minutes, not hours), the video output did not match the audio and the video was VERY CHOPPY. You could not even see what the leg action was in "dancing with the stars". I tried to change various settings, but still got the choppy video. Video ReDo converted two 1.7GB files down to 378MB, I suspect by deleting a large percentage of the video frames to save processing time, giving the choppy video. I had used windows movie maker (Muvee editor which comes with my HP is useless for TV shows) to edit out commercials nine days ago, but WMM is painfully slow in the editing (Pinnacle Studio is much, much better, but does not work with Vista) and takes 35 minutes to convert a TV show, still much better than AVS. But now, WMM gives me an error message with every video I try to convert. A system restore may fix whatever got corrupted with all this video software I have been installing. After WMM did its conversion, I used DivX to convert the file so my DVD player could play the TV show. All this takes up so much time, it just about is not worth it!!!! I am almost to the point of just doing a system restore to nine days ago when WMM still worked and just burn the TV shows with commercials and use the fast forward on the DVD. But that would lock me into only using my PC to watch TV. As you can see, I have been busy. One of your posters suggested Super Convert, a free utility. It seems to do everything AVS does EXCEPT DVR-MS. If I can get your utility to work on my vista machine, Super Convert will do the rest. Or I may not even need it if your utility's files are small enough. I would rather burn an MPEG file to DVD than DivX, because the DivX files I have created are a bit choppy. I think that is because WMM did its conversion and then DivX did another conversion. Bottom line, I would like to try your utility, but do not know what other steps to attempt. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Re: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
Can you make it so it doesn't just convert recently finished files... but files that are dropped into a specific folder...?
There are times when I only want to burn some mpgs to a disc to give to a friend to watch a show or two. Mostly recording soaps for my mom since her vcr is busted.
but i don't want to convert all my shows that are finished... most I watch, and then I'm done with.

AutoDVRconvert can already do this. Just configure the input directory to be something else. This will then be you "special drop directory". You can drop files in there when you wish to ocnvert them.

Re: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
@Frank2007:
I have tracked down the issue of the problem that you can't register dump.ax, which is the reason AutoDVRconvert doesn't work correctly, cause it really does need this directshow filter installed. The problem lies with IEFRAME.DLL and SHLWAPI.DLL having unresolved external dependencies. Not sure what I can do about that, I'll look into it.

Re: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
I've been using AutoDVRconvert 1.3 for a while now using the 'Convert single file' option.
It would seem that I irregularly get a dvr-ms that just refuses to convert. I never get any error messages, it just all seems to crawl to a halt. I can abort and process another file without issue, but if i return to the problematic file it just stops.
Can anyone help me troubleshoot this issue?

Oke, me and Frank, we have made the classic vista mistake. simply right clicking the "register filters.bat", and use "Run as Administrator" wont work. As soon as you open a batch file in administrative mode, the current directory within the command prompt (in which the batch file runs) isn't the one you used to start it up. So in order to run it correctly, open a command prompt in administrator mode, then go to the directory where autodvrconvert resides, then type "register filters" [ENTER] That should do the trick. You should be able to use it now. good luck.

Re: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
sounds good...
two questions still... does this program have to run in the background... I would rather have it on demand... Don't want any other program running the chance of keeping my computer from going to sleep....
second question, does it monitor mc at all... or can it be turned off... I also don't want anything being added to MC, would rather have the program dependent on itself. Completely stand alone...
I've had too many problems with programs messing up my recordings, and or interfering with my tuners ability to record flawlessly.

corse you can run it on demand. if you dropped some files in the directory you designated as your "special drop directory", and configured AutoDVRconvert to start the Auto-Convert when starting the program, you can simply start the program when you want to, and it'll process all the files in that specified dir. Also, it won't really monitor MCE at all, it just monitors the directory, nothing more, nothing less.

When you press the 'X' on the dialog, it really closes, exits the app. when you press minimize, it will sit in the tray.

Re: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
YESSSSS!!!! Your utility works and it works FAST. It took about a minute on my 2.6GHz dual core Athlon vista machine to convert the files below. AVS took more than four hours on the same machine!!!!
Requires DOS command after bootup (F8), then Safe Mode with command prompt. CD to drive where video files are. DOS will not recognize the "regsvr32" command from this drive, but DOS will recognize the command: C:\windows\system32\regsvr32 dump.ax command when executed from within that drive. Repeat for mpgmux.ax.
A 1.656GB DVR-MS file became a 1.534GB MPEG file. A 2.585 GB file becomes 2.383GB, about 200 megs of XML missing. Curved letters within the video are slightly jagged in the MPEG file, not in the original, but the video does match the audio. When people speak, their lips move properly, unlike the results I got with Video ReDo yesterday. And the footwork in the Cha Cha is not choppy. My wife should be pleased. Thanks much!!

Re: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
That's very strange, I use VideoRedo all the time, and very often convert 1 and 2 hours shows, and never ever have I had video and audio out of sync. I wonder what causes this in some systems. With that said, VideoRedo is an amazing program also, so easy to use, and very very quick to convert. I have used other programs, but the resulting file was too small, and the video quality was not there, - because the resulting file was so much smaller. The video that VideoRedo creates is just like the original, if I challenged somebody watching it on my system, they would not know the original from the converted file. It's nice to have choice though, and it's nice that members are able to make programs listed in this thread, and share them with others. Frank2007:YESSSSS!!!! Wouldn't work for me... Program didn't do anything... I would load up a single file to convert, nothing happens... Would point it to my folders, nothing happened....
