RE: Let's do SmartGuide on MCE2005

Which guide did you follow? The earlier one (by Thomas) or my later version?

The earlier one suggests deleting a bunch of channel setup files (which I feel is generally not necessary and seems to cause what you're describing)...

To fix this, simply resetup the TV section in MCE2005 - and you'll get TV back...

THEN you need to re-import those .REG files again as resetting up TV / EPG will put back the old defaults.. and you should have TV back and EPG back.. See how you go with SmartGuide once you're back with a blank EPG and TV back again.

Cheers

Thanks.

I used your updated guide.....

I tried running the TV setup again, now MCE finds way too many channels........why is that ?

RE: Let's do SmartGuide on MCE2005

Thanks for a already superb program. After a few hours installing and setting up everything I finally got it working after some manual editing of webguide2's database everything seems to be working nice. 14 days of tvprograms are now in my "custom" Swedish EPG (I used o2grabber for the XML grabbing part if anybody else in Sweden wanna know). Could'nt stop myself from posting a link to some sweet eyecandy

RE: Let's do SmartGuide on MCE2005

Hi

After following the smart guide, EPG works fine, except.. my system is set up with at satelitte dish and a receiver sending the signal into my tv-tuner card in one channel. That channel has offcourse all the channels from the receiver(when changing them on the receiver). What i ask is this.: Can I have the EPG guide working with the channels that I have on the receiver, but still only have the one channel for Live-tv. When I follow the guide, it makes as many channels as I have on the EPG. When all I need is the one channel from the receiver. wow confusing now How can I work around this?

RE: Let's do SmartGuide on MCE2005

Dunno if I', posting correctly -- first time..
I've got SmartGuide/WebGuide working (Sweden) - to about 95%.

MCE2005 is controlling my DVB-C STB box: runs a full range of channels ordered: 1-45.

PROBLEM: MCE remote control's UP/DOWN key JUMPS OVER (in the middle or so) the channels that are not fed xmltv data. My guess:

Stop all the eh* services
Launch SMartGuide -> click button 'ChannelEditor' (Load)..
..(I see non-xlmltv channels are missing)
Is it OK to add them here? -- then SAVE
finalize with "2.LoadGuide from XML")

I'm abit afrain to mess up since I think I'm SO close!

RE: Let's do SmartGuide on MCE2005

Seems I figured out the simple problem with Missing Channels...Ok not so hard :-)
In the MCE interface I picked Settings->TV->Guide-> "Add Missing Channels". Just had to think for a minute I suppose.

OK.. Now is the time to send a HUGE HUGE, THANK YOU!! To all you folks that made this possible for us in theses "lesser countries". I'm *incredibly* thankful.

All the best.

RE: Let's do SmartGuide on MCE2005

Hi all,

after many hours of trying different xml files, I have worked out what is causing problems with the Webguide/smartguide EPG. It appear that any channels with a "&" symbol in the name cause problems when completeing step "2. Loadguide from XML" in Smartguide.

I manually changed all references to these channels using cut and replace and smartguide worked.

The channels concerned (in Australia) are Crime & Investigation and Discovery Travel & Adventure.

Since these are Foxtel channels, this will not affect FTA users

I will try and automate the fix.

Does anyone know the writer of Smartguide to see if a fix for this can be created?

Or can anyone with more programming experience than me have a go.

Best wishes

RE: Let's do SmartGuide on MCE2005

OK, here is a fix for the "&" problem mentioned earlier.

save the attached file fart.exe (stands for find and replace text) to your windows/ehome directory

add the following lines to your batch file (or copy this text and paste into notepad and save as a findandreplace.bat). This routine will need to be run after TVHarvest but prior to refreshing MCE_Wizard.exe (Webguide)

******************************************************

c:\windows\ehome\fart listing2.xml "Crime & Investigation Network" "Crime and Investigation Network"

c:\windows\ehome\fart listing2.xml "Discovery Travel & Adventure" "Discovery Travel and Adventure"

******************************************************

Many thanks to the authors.

RE: Let's do SmartGuide on MCE2005

Hi guys

I'm having somewhat of a curious problem.

I followed the guide, and everything seemed to work.

At the momen, when I go to http://localhost/webguide2 I get the channel overview.

When I run the Smartguide.exe, and press the "WebGuide2MCE" it produces a XML file.

However when I press the "Loadguide from XML" I get "I am sorry, something went wrong....".

When I start MCE 2005 and navigate to the guide it says "No channels"

I am somewhat at a loss, so any help will be appriciated.

RE: Let's do SmartGuide on MCE2005

Hmm... How does one go about adding channels that are not supported by xmltv? I tried "Add missing channel" but that seems to screw everything up.

RE: Let's do SmartGuide on MCE2005

I got the same problem that hgr got, but my guide has worked fine for 2 - 3 weeks, but out of nowhere it stops updating the guide in MCE. If I look at http://localhost/webguide2 the data is there, but the doesnt seem

to be accepted by mce2005.

please help

RE: Let's do SmartGuide on MCE2005

Thanks Thomas for a great guide. It helped me to get the EPG to work for me in Sweden. I used O2Grabber to grab the listing of Swedish channels, works great!

One problem... in MCE 2005 I cant search in the Guide... any idea? Thats the only problem for me right now.

About updates ;
Anyone with tips on how and how often its good to run the update-script? Should I download 14 days each day or just a few days each time? Can I update all info while MCE is in action?

Thanks for great applications and helpful people!

RE: Let's do SmartGuide on MCE2005

Performance issue with SmartGuide with 1,4 MB Access database (4743 rows in programe table). To open the guide takes 5-10 minutes... to scroll in time or channels takes 5+ min

The performance in http://localhost/webguide2/ is fine, no more than seconds to update, scroll in the guide...
