RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen
Awesome! Thanks, guys. I will call them first chance I get. 5.9 was no help for me either. Hopefully, they will take me seriously this time. I will post back in this thread as soon as I've had news.

RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen
Ok guys,I've called them, discussed it further, and gave them the ticket numbers you submitted (thanks again for that). My own ticket number is 737-863333. Please continue to monitor your respective tickets and provide ATI support with more info as needed. If you like, or if you have time, update your own ticket with everyone else's number.
When I spoke with the tech today, he said their initial testing was done using a vga connection (sigh). I explained that this seemed to be a DVI only issue so hopefully, he will recreate it successfully this time. If anyone else has case numbers, please post them here and continue monitoring the thread. I will send word as soon as I know more.
Jason
p.s. i don't know why, but i can't get my posts to show up after OverTheTop's from three days ago. I see that one other person did, but I can't for the life of me figure out how. What gives, I wonder?

RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen
ATI came back to me and i ran the support wizard and sent them the outputted txt file.
Whilst we wait on ATI (that haven't yet replicated the problem) can i ask if the problem can be worked around by using the regular PC output on the PC (which is still digital?) through some sort of adapter and then on to the HDMI socket?

RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen
wish i could help with a ticket, but my video card i can't seem to register since i got it for free with no support info... anyway, here's my problem... x300 to Sony big screen rear projector from DVI to DVI, no HDMI... Same problem with me.... Now, when i install the drivers straight from dell, i have no problem... (or at least 3 months ago when i used them instead of the cat drivers ATI has for d/l) maybe this will help also.

RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen
Benflux, I'm not sure which output you mean. Do you mean the 15pin VGA port? If so, VGA is actually not a digital output -- it's analog. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there are adapters for VGA to HDMI. I don't think you can convert analog to digital. The opposite is possible (DVI to VGA), but I've never come across DVI / HDMI to VGA (never have looked for something like that, though). But, if you did find something, from what others have told me and ATI's own testing efforts, the problem does not seem to occur when using the VGA port. There are VGA to 3 port RCA component adapters if you want to try that -- those are relatively inexpensive from the ATI store and I'm sure other people make them as well.

RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen
I have the same problem with the 9600 XT and the new 5.9 drivers. I use a DVI - HDMI adapter. My workaround is to use the Catalyst Control Center to create two profiles - one with 16-bit color and another with 32-bit color and associate them with shortcut keys. When I switch back to my PC I temporarily switch to 16-bit color using the shortcut key and switch back to 32-bit color again. I wasn't sure if this was an ATI issue or an issue with my TV (Toshiba 52HMX94) until I saw this thread. I will call ATI to open a case.

RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen
I don't know if i mentioned it before, but you all should know that this problem doesn't exist before 5.7. if you don't need 5.9 for gaming or other reasons, 5.6 and earlier will work as they are supposed to. I would just ask that you do open your case so that ati will fix the problem for the rest of us who do need to be able to use the latest releases. i would personally probably use 5.6 if it would display DVD menus correctly (at all). It is interesting that using 16bit color will fix it though -- you should mention that when you submit your ticket.

RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen
5.6 is still available at ATI and yes, you should uninstall 5.9 first. I don't think you'll have any problems downgrading, but you may experience other problems that you didn't have in 5.8 or 5.9. Good luck.

RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen
Well, they responded. No word on when the fix will be implemented, just that they are working on it. Thank you all for your help. If they don't have a fix by next release, I'll call them again and see what can be done. I guess we'll meet again when the next release comes out. Here is the contents of their email:
We have responded to your issue.
Solution: Hi Jason,
This issue has been escalated to Software Engineering for further investigation.
Currently the only workarounds for the problem is to hot plug the DVI or HDMI connection or revert to Catalyst 5.6.
Once a solution has been identified it will be implemented into a future Catalyst release.

RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen
Also from ATI:
"We were successfully able to recreate this issue and are currently working on a fix for it. In the meantime you will need to use Catalyst 5.6. Any updates will be made available on our website. Catalyst 5.6 is available from our website in the previous drivers and section category."
We await.

RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen
To get around the problem I set a button on my I-Mon remote control to change the screen resolution - that wakes the screen.
Better to burn out than to fade away...

RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen
i have my computer set to go in and out of S3 standby mode, so i have gotten around this problem. however, what if in the power settings you set the display to turn off after say 5 mins of inactivity. this way if you switch to another device or turn off the TV, the display would automatically turn off. when you hit a button on the remote, it should resume.

Jason How do you hot plug the DVI connection? Tried to find out what verson of Catalyst I'm on, but can't seem to find out. Using MCE 2005 through Redeon X800 XL to Panasonic AE700 projector via DVI output > HDMI input. Can you point me in right direction? Tom

RE: DVi -> HDMI cable wont wake screen
Hot plugging the DVI -- I think they just mean to unplug and replug the connection. for some reason, that crashes my system so it's not much of a workaround for me. the catalyst control center in your system tray should show you the driver version and tell you if there is a newer one available.
