    RE: My Menu|Web News|Weather|File Manager|Thumbnal Viewer|Special Folders

One user of My Web News asked me if it was possible to add traffic information. I could not find an RSS feed in Holland for that, but with the new filter technology it was easy to make an entry directly to the internet page of the Dutch traffic information.

The attached screenshot shows the result.

    RE: My Menu|Web News|Weather|File Manager|Thumbnal Viewer|Special Folders

Hi there Great plug-in but I have a problem

I installed everything and rebooted but I can't navigate wbe news using the remote control, just the mouse, also the in the center of the screen the MCE spiral thing that indicates something is processing won't go away, it sits on top of the articles and weather. Any thoughts... Should I try a fresh install?

    Thanks

    Chris,

It seems, you installed over an existing version. I think its better first to unistall and then install again.
Do you have the version with the Marquee at the bottom? Turning it off might also help.
In the new version I implemented Extra Setting to toggle the Marquee.

There will be a new version coming soon, including an editor for the Start and More Programs menus.
You can Edit and Delete programs and thus change the titles in the Start and More Programs menus.

    RE: My Menu|Web News|Weather|File Manager|Thumbnal Viewer|Special Folders

I added a menu editor to My Web News with which you can edit the Start Menu and More Programs entries that are really registered (not the ones using an mcl file). You can change Title, SubTitle, Description and Context of each program, or even delete it. This way you can change the name of programs in the Start Menu and you can also see how many programs are really registered.

In future versions I will also add other categories like Audio and Internet Radio and the possibility to add programs from More Programs to the Start Menu (you can always delete them again).

MCE however will only show two programs in the Start Menu, so its useless to add more.

My Menu Editor is a feature not supported by MCECustomizer.

For more information follow the My Web News thread.

My Menu Editor will be available soon.

    RE: My Menu|Web News|Weather|File Manager|Thumbnal Viewer|Special Folders

Hey thanks for the speedy repy and advice!

Unfortunatly uninstalling and re-installing did not work. I've never installed this before so doubt I'm installing over an old version. I'm stuck, may just have to live with the twirly thing and mouse only navigation.

BTW yes I have the marquee at the bottom.

    Thanks

    RE: My Menu|Web News|Weather|File Manager|Thumbnal Viewer|Special Folders

    Chris,

The thing you describe hasn't happened before.
It could be the Marquee because it consumes a lot of CPU time. What kind of processor do you use?

It test on a 1.7 GHz laptop and my MCE is 3 GHz, on both machines I don't have any problem.

In the new version (today or tomorrow) you can disable the Marquee and see if that helps.

    RE: My Menu|Web News|Weather|File Manager|Thumbnal Viewer|Special Folders

I'm using a P4 3Ghz.... Should be fast enough... Well I'll keep plugg'n away, let you know how it turns out. A while back I installed that http: mail reader not realizing that it was mce2004 only, I uninstalled it but perhaps it has something to do with it.

Let me know if I missed a step in the installation. I ran the installer pretty much clicked ok or yes to everything then I opened it and right off the bat I had the problem explained earlier, Was I suppost to do something extra...

    Thanks

    RE: My Menu|Web News|Weather|File Manager|Thumbnal Viewer|Special Folders

Hi Chris, I tested everything on my MCE today. The only problem I had was the Thumbnail Viewer on empty directories and it didn't want to play audio and video, but these are fixed now.

Are you connected to internet, because for the Marquee an RSS Feed is loaded and if you are not connected, Web News will continue to try to make a connection.

The Marquee can be disabled now but only for registered users.

    RE: My Menu|Web News|Weather|File Manager|Thumbnal Viewer|Special Folders

    Hi Chris,

Yesterday I've been testing until 2.30 AM (with summertime 3.30 am:-). Now I also had the same problem with the remote and after disabling the Marquee and restarting the computer it worked perfectly, so I decided to disable it by default for unregistered users. On IE i don't have this problem so it must be something in MCE.

Developing software is a hobby as you can see on my internet site. So I like it if its used and works properly. For that I need users who respond and tell me the bugs and problems.

    RE: My Menu|Web News|Weather|File Manager|Thumbnal Viewer|Special Folders

The last version on my website now includes My Music, a version of My File Manager that can be used as an alternative for MCE My Music, it uses the directory structure instead of playlists. Also added is My Translation, based on the online Translation service of Alta Vista Babelfish. It supports many different language combinations.

    RE: My Menu|Web News|Weather|File Manager|Thumbnal Viewer|Special Folders

    Chris,

    Thanks for the feedback.

Another user asked me to view html pages directly in the File Manager, and this is possible, but then it doesn't respond to the scrolling anymore and gives an error message. I will try to find a solution to this, because it openens many possibilities for webcams and so on.

My Outlook is progressing fast, its now possible to view emails and contacts and it will display the whole folder structure. It also displays hotmail if you have it in Outlook (2202/2003).

I'm now working on the Calendar,Notes and Tasks, so I guess it will have a first Beta version in about a week.

    RE: My Menu|Web News|Weather|File Manager|Thumbnal Viewer|Special Folders

Will Outlook be a seperate application, with a seperate .DLL?

Ever thought about breaking up My Menu|Web News|File Manager, etc..into seperate applications, also with seperate .DLLs?

Id like to utilize different parts of your application, but not all. Im sure I could code it to my liking, but I just thought I share these thoughts and pose such question to you.

    Cheers, Chaser!

    RE: My Menu|Web News|Weather|File Manager|Thumbnal Viewer|Special Folders

    Chaser,

You can already use applications seperately, My WebNews, My Weather, My FileManager, My Music, My Menu Editor, My Translation and My Outlook can have seperate entries in MCE, you only have to make an mcl file and put it in the MCE directory (on my web site you can find where). There is already an example mcl in the Web News directory. But all applications use the same dll, but I can't imagine thats a problem.

The first version of My Outlook can be downloaded now, I'm working on some additions like a calendar for the appointments part.

I will also put information on the website on how to make all the mcl files.
