RE: DVR 2 WMV Release Candidate 3.5
I'm a PAL user Jeff - so compatibilty mode doesn't help (just the old 6k file thing) I'm using the Intervideo WinDVD 5 codec. So it appears that I need to switch codec to make any progress. The problem I've got here is that I can't seem to locate the Nvidia DVD Codec anywhere!!!!.... anyone got any suggestions ?? On the "loading..." question - I don't have any watched folders and I have about 10 files in my "Recorded TV" folder. I'd be happy just to get this working in stand-alone mode to start with though. It seems like an app that will have great potential for me - and might even convince me to walk away from DivX (flames on a postcard to....) Cheers Golfy

Jeff, Same as input size doesn't work for me either. It ends up making a file that's about 1meg/min in size that is useless. What was wrong with the medBitrate profiles? I thought 1000kbs is a pretty good encoding size for WMV. That's what I use for all the shows I convert to Divx/Xvid.

RE: DVR 2 WMV Release Candidate 3.5
I have WINDVD version 4. When trying it locally with or without compatibility mode I get the same errors that some people in the previous messages stated. When having compability mode on and using remote desktop it works. Any ideas why? I was trying to get it NVDVD (Version 2.55) but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Does anyone know where I can get it? What other decoders work? For instance does PowerDVD work? Thanks, Jesse

RE: DVR 2 WMV Release Candidate 3.5
ok, this release is now following the exact pattern of the last one, after installation the first couple of conversions you do go fine, then they start locking up at the end of the process, if the file time is 60 mins, the conversion goes right up to 60 mins, then just sits there with the clock on the right counting up, the exact same symptoms occur on two different machines....The file is actuall fully converted it seems but the indexing of the file ie: the ability to fast forward in mp etc, has it seems yet to be done as the file can be viewed but mp will not skip/ff..Even if the application is restarted, after the first lockup any further conversions do the same, even just doing one file, is some buffer or temp file not being deleted and screwing the process?? Any ideas, this is so fraustrating as the app itself is superb, and the fs gui is great

I had a previous version work with WinDVD 3.2. So if you can't find nVDVD maybe you can find an old WinDVD.

RE: DVR 2 WMV Release Candidate 3.5
Hi Jeff, tried it with Pal cbr, and my own custom prx file which was just a copy of the old hq cbr from the previous release modified for pal output, but with everything else set "as was", i am sure i am using the nvdvd codec, i have tried this over rdp, standalone, fs-gui the lot but the result ends up the same, the first couple go through and i'm jumping around thinking thats it then it starts to screw up, the thing will even decode and output over my network to a different machine which i thought was way too cool, any ideas?? loony

RE: DVR 2 WMV Release Candidate 3.5
Hmm, just to clarify are you saying that with a batch conversion the first couple work OK and then the third will hang and none after the third will convert? Or are you saying that if you convert one then close the program, then open the program convert another one, close the program then open and then it stops working?

RE: DVR 2 WMV Release Candidate 3.5
H Jeff, thanks for the quick reply,( this is almost realtime ha!), with this version and the last one, i started with loading in 3 or 4 files, the first few would go through ok, then i would get the hanging, any consequent attempts to do a batch will result in the prog hanging at the end of usually the first file, the file actually reaches the end of the conversion process, but the program does not seem to "wrap up" that particular file and move on to the next, just sits there the resulting file is playable, in fact i can start watching a file in mid conversion as it were, but on my wmp it will not allow fast forward skip etc, strangely this will allow skipping ff etc, on my xbox?? go figure!!, the result is a hung batch and files which wont play back in wmp, the files which have been converted fully and then the program has moved on to the next ( not many) will play properly in wmp, and can be skipped etc, so that suggests to me that once the conversion takes place it somhow adds the necessary info for ff/skipping, perhaps this is the point at which it hangs??

RE: DVR 2 WMV Release Candidate 3.5
Thanks for the background on the BIN and Channel2 files. They are small and do no harm, so as long as there is a plan for them, I am happy to let them be as is. Standard closed captions actually have two channels, so it is possible to have a single TV show with two sets of captions. As I understand it, it was designed so that you could have two languages -- English and Spanish, for example in the US. CC1 would be English (matching the audio) and CC2 would be Spanish. In real life, I have never seen it used. If I can find one where it is used, I will let you know. One very minor note on the captions -- some captions include a notation for music. On my TV it shows up as an icon for a musical note. In DVR 2 WMV it shows up as "^^^^^^^" instead. Personally, I think that is fine, espcially since there is no good ASCII equivalent for a musical note. Other than that, the captions have been superb -- synchronized just as well as the original file and just as accurate. I LOVE that I can go into the SAMI file and correct spelling mistakes -- sometimes the captions have errors, either in the original captions or because of transmission glitches. Great work!

RE: DVR 2 WMV Release Candidate 3.5
I could not find anything good for a musical note so I used "^". That is by design. It bugged me also.

RE: DVR 2 WMV Release Candidate 3.5
Jeff, Can you explain create a new profile for me, do you mean windows profile or do you mean MCE profile or what? Thanks in advance. Edit:// Yeah I'm an idiot I get the profile thing now, but I've run into another problem. When I hit Start it says "No combination of intermediate filters could be found to make the connection. The program will not exit." Thanks again.
