    Re: XBMC for Windows

I have to give a plug for Mediaportal.  I was never interested in this until I saw some screenshots of the "Aeon" theme in action (which is available for both XBMC and Mediaportal).  I'm currently evaluating Mediaportal as a movie/video/pictures replacement for Vista MCE.

Mediaportal seems much more stable compared to the Windows port of XBMC, which I evaluated for a short time.  MP also includes TV/DVR functionality.  As for the Aeon theme, you have to see it to understand what it does.  But imagine an animated movie browser that contains automatically generated (scraped) cover art, fan art, descriptions, etc.  To me it seems like My Movies on steroids.

I tried to use XBMC, it is not quite stable yet and support for Japanese characters and loading up 60GB of music data seem to kill it.

OMG, that skin looks beautiful, I have to try this today :).

BTW, can I add ripped Blu-rays into it's video library?

    Re: XBMC for Windows

I use to use 2 xboxes to access shares on my XP machine before, and I had directv tivos with ccxstream to read tv programs. After switching to Vista Media Center and regular cable, I use my Xboxes as UPNP clients which allow me to retrieve tv shows by title, genre, etc. Xbox plays dvr-ms files directly however I have not been able to fix a bug which does not allow me to rewind. Also, there is no commercial detection. When I was in transition before I found vista media center I use to use PVR (something) which allowed me to save files as mpeg with commercial skip which the xbox recognized really well. But I have had to compromise that for the convenience of VMC and an extender. My xbox is now used as a secondary player to view other content. With the new XBMC release I am planning to try the live version on an older machine to see if I can make it behave as a faster xbox.
