Do you have two User accounts? You can't use the currently logged in account!

Did you enable fast User switching?

Did you check the box "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer" and add the name of your second account to the list of authorized Users?

The fact that you cannot connect even with the local User logged out tells me you have not configured the basic settings for remote desktop. I would check item number 3 (above) first. Go to My Computer | Properties | Remote.

Thanks for the reply, but still no luck.

I have set up remote access as per the directions on the MS website. The allow remote access option is ticked and fast user switching is also ticked. I have created a new account called Remote and have my normal account, both with admin access.

I power up both PCs and log into my normal account. I try to access the media centre remotly and enter Remote as the user name but get the same error message... that I can't log in due to an account restriction. There are no passwords set in place that I may have mistyped.

I have shared folders on the media centre that I currently access fine and use a wireless link.

You cannot login remotely using an account that has no password associated with it otherwise you get the error you mention: "You cannot log in due to an account restriction".

Try adding a password the the "Remote" account and then log in remotely.

If this doesn't work go into System Properties and then the Remote tab. Click "Select Remote Users" and make sure your "Remote" account is on the whitelist.

I haven't had any luck getting this to work either. Everything seems to hold, but even with WFP disabled, the termsrv.dll changes back to the newest version after restart.

Worked for me!  I didn't see a mention of turning back on the windows file protection in the registry but I did it and my dll hasn't been changed so I'm happy.

    Hi,

Followed the instructions to the letter - hoorah, works a treat !!!

One issue though, do I now re enable WFP now or will that try and overwrite the replacement dll file??

    Cheers

Excellent! I just got it all working. Now I can set up DiVX decoding sessions on my beefy HTPC from my old machine in the office. The girlfriend gets to watch her favorites and I get my processing power.

turned WFP back on today - no probs.

I'm gonna see if this will work on vanilla XP, would be useful for administration on my network.

    Cheers

RE: 2 users loggid in at same time on MCE 2005 - Concurrent Sessions - Better title

    What am I doing wrong.

I followed the instructions to the letter.
I can see that the dll is the new one, not the original, by the file size, so that worked.
I created a new user, administrator privleges (called Remote)
    Gave Remote a password.
Added both users to the "white list" although this should not be necesary as they're both administrators.

Now if one is logged on and I try to remote connect with the other I get a warning message that "The other user is connected to the computer. If you continue to connected, the other user will be disconnected automatically. Do you want to continue"

Don't know if my problem is related to this, but it worked fine for a couple of days and now Media Centre has died.

When it starts it crashes with an exception error and won't load.

Looks like a reinstal from a ghost image - thank the lord for Ghost !!!

RE: 2 users loggid in at same time on MCE 2005 - Concurrent Sessions - Better title

    This is cool.

However, now I've had to learn how to deal with user profiles...more time taken up, but at least I can listen to the music whilst I'm pratting about.

Just one issue in the instructions.

It says: create a dword key.

When I right clicked the menu said New key at the top and underneath it had as one option dword. I eventually figured out the I did in fact need the dword. Perhaps the instructions could be slightly reworded for those unused to the registry.

    Cheers.

Any one have any idea of how to solve my problem or what I'm doing wrong (2 posts above)

Whenever my remote user logs on, my local user is automatically logged off.

Check to see that you have the correct *.dll file installed, inspect the file size a few minutes after you physically copied it over into your system.  MCE will write on top of the latest file almost immediately after I copied into the correct directory.  Not knowing that this file replacement was taking place I tried to login with my 2nd account and kept getting the error that you are experiencing.

The way I resolved this issue was by copying the correct .dll file to my system after I booted from the safe mode ( bare bones mode no lan, no nada).

I then restarted the system and everything worked.

    Good Luck!
