Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max (Analog/ATSC/QAM), QAM ready in VMC/MCE
Doug,
I had this same problem. A couple of tips that got me through this:
- After installing, reboot.
- Scan for channels, save what the QAM tool finds and reboot.
- When going through the channels in the clear QAM utility to rename, you need to be careful. I figured out which ones mapped to my locals and then renamed them all.
- Make sure you save a copy of the file when you get the found QAM channels renamed.
- Reboot after exporting the cleaned up channels to VMC.
That seemed to help out a lot. I noticed a lott more BSODs when I switched from the QAM tool to VMC without rebooting or when I hopped around too fast in the QAM tool. Hope that helps.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max (Analog/ATSC/QAM), QAM ready in VMC/MCE
I just received the AVerTV Hybrid Volar MAX USB 2 for my HP Laptop that is running Vista Ultimate. I went to the Avermedia web site and Downloaded and installed the 1.0.0.70_SwEncoder3.2.1.81_AVIN1.1.0.7AVAMP1.0.0.3 drivers,
I went into Vista MCE and set up the TV signal. It picked up all my channels, all 200+ (I have Cox Communications), and when I go to watch TV thru MCE Vista, it says that my signal is too low and I look at a black screen.although I am able to see the channel and am able to change channels, all that shows is a black screen.
Can anybody tell me how to get this too work?
Thanks
Vince

Are you talking about QAM channels or NTSC?

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max (Analog/ATSC/QAM), QAM ready in VMC/MCE
NTSC Channels This is the error I get
Loss Of Signal
Windows Media Center has stopped capturing data due to low data rate in the TV signal. this may be a temporary situation. If this pesists, make sure the cable for the TV signal is connected properly, restart the computer, and then try tuning to a channel.
I am about ready to toss it, I set up Avermedia's Media Center and I can watch TV thru that, but I get this error when trying to watch TV thru MCE??

Doug,
Sorry to hear about this problem, i do have a pre release driver for AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max H826 that I want you to test it for me.
Would you please email me at beta@aver.com, also would you please collect BSOD Dump file and your system info file (run DXDIAG.exe and System Info tool from Accessories, System Tools and export to TXT format and email me)
Best regards

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max (Analog/ATSC/QAM), QAM ready in VMC/MCE
just got mine from Newegg. I am very happy with it so far. I had a Pinnacle before and lots of problems. TV quality is great. I can watch unencrypted digital channels from my TW service OK in AVerMediaCenter. Since last night I am trying to get these channels added to VMC with the AVer_ClearQAM tool. Two problems. If I stay too long in that tool and switch between channels I get BSOD and reboot. I can save the listed channels to a file and get a confirmation when exporting them. However, whenever I open VMC there are no new channels listed I can add. I must be missing something I guess?
any help appreciated.
edit1: investigated a little more. A new file is actually saved into C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\EPG\prefs
atscprefs.xml next to another file that has been there already prefs.xml. The new file contains the channels I renamed and exported from the qam utility program.
But VMC doesn't care whether that's in there or not. I then renamed the new file to just prefs.xml but with no luck. VMC still doesn't care what I do there. It seems that there is another location where VMC copies its preference file. Not sure where though.
edit2: ok, maybe I misunderstood something. The guide of the utility asks to use VMC and scan the channels and check digital antenna after that and it will list signal strength. This doesn't make sense for digital cable of course, there is no antenna. When I ran VMC I chose defaults (automatic setup). This creates the prefs.xml. However, when I do it just as the manual of the qam utility says, it gives me no signal strength for all my channels but creates a file atscchannels.xml. When I then close VMC and open it again, go to setup, tv, guide, add missing channels I get the extra channels listed from the utility. I delete the first one and have them now in my channel list.
edit3: even though I got the channels into VMC, I lose them right away as soon as I go to one of my regular analogue channels and back. I then get an error that my new channels are either off air or antenna signal too low.
Again. for people with digital cable, this may lead to the same problem I had. only if you have the atscchannels.xml file in the dir will it recognize the qam utility export file.
thanks

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max (Analog/ATSC/QAM), QAM ready in VMC/MCE
I have gotten the qam to work, but I have a bigger problem. I have two of these tuners (two separate usb tuners), and when I try to record one show and watch another I get a multiple irp requests error (blue screen of death and automatic restart). Are there any updated drivers that might fix this problem? Otherwise any suggestions?

Octavean:
I was under the impression that the deadline referred to broadcast analog and as such “cable”, for example, would be largely unaffected. As for those users reliant on OTA analog, a digital converter box can be easy and relatively cheaply acquired. I myself have two $40 coupons for digital converter boxes sitting right here.
The FCC requires cable companies to support the basic tier for analog cable ready TV sets through 2012. They can do this by carrying an analog SD version of digital channels or by converting everything to digital and renting you a converter at a reasonable cost. I would not expect to get by without a converter until 2012 on any but the smallest of cable systems. Comcast went all digital in Chicago a year ago today. I expect other Comcast systems will be all digital before the end of 2009.

I am experiencing a similar problem. I scan the channels with AVer_ClearQAM tool, save the list. Then while I edit the channel labels, channel switching seems to cause BSOD.
After the reboot, I load the previously saved list to continue updating the channel labels until it BSOD again.
I did actually managed to get QAM channels working in VMC, though not all guide data is present. Even in VMC, channel switching seems to cause BSOD.
Luckily, I don't have to rely on this system for a QAM TV. I do hope we get a more stable driver before the Olympics ;)

This driver released fixed issues with supporting QAM, fixed issue with x64 OS with more then 4GB of RAM. This tuner support QAM in Vista VMC or XP MCE (both x32 and x64 bit) using an original drivers and same QAM Plug-In for Microsoft Media Center (both XP based and Vista based)
You can find more information about AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max on following link: http://www.aver.com/mpd/hybrid_volar_max.html. and its available from AVerMedia Secure E-Store for $79.99.
Please run AVer_ClearQAM.exe to scan for Digital Channels (Please notice that with this Plug in you can only watch Unencrypted "Clear" QAM Channels, not your Premium Channels. Some of the channels that Plug in will recognized will be Encrypted by your Cable Company and you cannot see then, you will have to manually removed them from MCE TV Guide. Please download Vista MCE Plug-In from the following FTP:

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max (Analog/ATSC/QAM), QAM ready in VMC/MCE
Felix,
Thank you for your reply stating that a new driver was released. I looked on your site and the drivers for the X86 version of Vista Media Center appear to be the same driver 1.0.0.70 with a date of 3/14/08. The file is also appears to be the same as the old driver.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Hybrid Volar Max (Analog/ATSC/QAM), QAM ready in VMC/MCE
I have been playing with this tuner on & off for the last month or so. I have been using a newer beta driver for Vista x64 system. I have had numerous BSOD in both Aver driver while running Aver_ClearQAM & ehshell in Aver driver.
One thing I realized was that switching channels, especially to marginal quality channels causes the crash more often. So I basically cut my channel list to 8 channels (4 local HD) that I am most likely to watch. Another advantage is that I have the guide listings for all except for one PBS channel. I have not had a BSOD since I switched to this configuartion.
Two annoying issues though, maybe more to do with VMC than Aver driver:
1. If I reopen VMC, I get no signal feed from the tuner. I have to restart VMC receiver service to get the video feed again.
2. I have a dual monitor setup with VMC in the primary monitor. It is really annoying that VMC remote does not work if the mouse is not grabbed by VMC.
I have not searched for workarounds for these issues, yet. I will post if I find them. TIA.
