Good luck actually getting the Tuners!  Dell is pissing me off. I had my computer for a week waiting on the tuners and now they cancelled my order because ATI is on backorder for the tuners.  i am currently on the phone with them about the issue

If you ordered one on Saturday, then you should have seen the note just below the option for ATI Digital TV Tuner that says something like "This Option May Delay Your Order"

I bought an XPS 420 yesterday and it says the same thing.  According to the website, everything except the tuners will ship in about a week, and the tuners will be another 6 days.  Not really a big deal, especially since they told me about it before I bought everything.

This is still an AWESOME deal.  Don't let a small delay in the tuners keep you from having this sweet system.

Oh wow, I misread that original post.  I didn't realize that Dell had cancelled the order.  That's not cool... 

I did just check my order and sure enough, the date was pushed back another 7 days.  When I ordered the XPS 420 yesterday, it said the XPS would ship on the 14th, the DCT's would ship on the 21st.  As of 1 hour ago, the DCT's ship date is now the 28th.

what's dell's return policy on partial shipments?

I'm not even going to open the XPS until the tuners get here, and if charter cannot get it to work, I'm returning the whole works

I posted a new thread on this but after about 3 hours on the phone with dell, i get the idea that no one knows anything.  last word i heard from a guy in the accessories/components division of dell is that they no longer offer the ati tuner???  My order was cancelled for the tuners and i cant seem to find anyone to help.  I am sending the XPS 420 back once i get on the phone again to get an rma.  I am pushing for them to reemburse my shipping costs to since this was a pain in my a**!

You know.  I'm really torn as to what to do here.  I've been running a HTPC for years. (GBPVR then SageTV, and the last two years Media Center).  I got a Tivo Series 3 a year ago so that I could have HD and CableCards on the livingroom big screen.  Now that the prices on CableCard pc's are reasonable, I was going to go for a XPS 420, ditch the Tivo, and be happy (right, happy). But with Direct TV's announcment I'm just not sure that my exisiting high end server won't do just fine with a couple of these new tuners. I have 3 XBox's that all serve as extenders, so I am deeply commited to the VMC platform.  So, my question is, if you could have your DirectTV integrated with VMC wouldn't you just prefer that?

direct tv has a LOT more hd channels than charter does here

Wow, it is... just tried to click the link and it's no longer valid. Glad I got in on this when I did. The unit is shipping today, but I don't know when I'll get the DCT's... supposedly on the 28th. -Scott

who do you call to get them?  And what type of remote is it supposed to have?  I"m assumign it does have some type of reciever for the remote

I don't understand that the deal is off.  I went to Dell's site a moment ago and there was an alert when choosing the single digital tuner card but seems to have cleared the requirement when an upgraded video card is choosen.  The next one up is 256MB Radeon ATI HD 2600 XT which is $100 more.

Not sure what you saw, but I just tried it and it still shows a delay for the DCT's. The thing that is bugging me is that it still shows a 6-day delay while my current order shows that the DCT's won't be shipped until the 28th (which amounts to a 21-day delay).

I did see the delay too, but when I read "the deal was off" I took it as either the price of the system or they removed the tuners from the addons.

I completely agree with your frustration in them saying one thing with the delay but in actuallity its much longer.
