Re: Question about CableCard and HDHomeRun

Absolutely possible.  I have 2 ATI DCTs and OTA ATSC via HDHomeRun and all 4 tuner sources work.  I just made sure that I had a cable attached to each tuner (and the drivers for all were installed correctly) then let MCE do its auto-detect and it told me it found 2 digital cable signals and to digital tv signals.  I let it complete the configuration and all were working.

I know the tuner supplied with my HP system works as does the HDHomeRun but I don't know about the VBOX brand.

Yes I have this setup and have no issues.

The comskip applications do not work with cablecard recordings..

So Comskip DOES work on that machine on the shows that were recorded with the HDHomerun?  I was under the impression that ALL recordings on a cablecard machine had the DRM applied, regardless of their source.  I hope I am wrong on that.

Only recordings from a physical CableCARD are protected.  Everything else is not protected and works as it does on any other PC.

Thanks.  I'm glad I was wrong on that issue.  I guess I'll be hooking up the HDHomerun to the main Media Center and switching over as many recordings as I can.

I will actually be going the same route, but instead with the Avermedia Tuner card I purchased.  Going to use it as Tuner #3.  While I think the wife will just use the normal Tuner #1 or 2 to record, it still allows for an extra Tuner to view, as well as record some of the kids content which will need to be synced to me Vision W.

    Thanks for the tips!

Re: Question about CableCard and HDHomeRun

I currently have 2 HDHomerun tuners and 2 ATI CableCard tuners (only 1 is being used at the moment because I only have 1 cable card). I’ve read on this thread that people have two sets of channels for the same station, which is the same setup I have now. For example 407 is ABC on the ATI and 1107 is ABC on the HDHomeRun. My question is, is it possible to configure MC to see both the ABC channels for HDHomeRun and the ATI on a single channel? For this example lets say I set channel ABC to 407 for both the HDHomeRun and the ATI. So, if I set Heroes to record on ABC MC picks the tuner card that is available, ATI or HDHomeRun, and records it. I regularly record more then 2 local channels at the same time and without this method I would have to do some tricking programming to make sure all my shows get recorded. I’m new to media center, but I have been using Snaptreams Beyond TV for years. I could something similar to this with Beyond TV, but I don’t see any way to do it in MC. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Question about CableCard and HDHomeRun

I have been unsuccessful at getting vista to see DCTs and hdhomerun at the same time. I have setup the hdhomerun by itself and tested. as soon as i connect the dcts and run setup tv signal, after it scans it says it only detects 2 connections = digital cable. its the dcts. anyone have this problem. I say scan again and its the same result. no option to enable the hdhomerun.

Re: Question about CableCard and HDHomeRun

You need to remove the cablecards from the ATI tuners during the setup to get it to enable manual mode.  After you go through the setup you can reinsert the cablecards and it will detect and configure them.

Re: Question about CableCard and HDHomeRun

OK, I got it the OCUR and HDHR tuners all setup! Here's a rough recount of what I did since I cannot remember the exact steps in the wizard and I don't want to chance messing this up by re-running it.

    - Remove CableCARD from OCUR tuner
    - Run TV setup
    - Select manual TV setup
    - Select antenna source
    - Select digital ATSC
    - Select: Yes, antenna is connected
    - Insert CableCARD into OCUR tuner
    - Setup additional source: cable
    - Select no cable box
    - Select enable digital cable (you may be prompted to setup CableCARD, if so select Yes)
    - Run through the rest of the setup to configure your TV guide info
    - During antenna channel scan: Deselect any ATSC channels under 1800
    - Finish

    - Dell XPS 420 with dual CableCARD tuners & HDHomeRun for QAM
    - Xbox 360
    - Linksys DMA2100
