Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1
I have downloaded your laterst version of DVD library manager and it solved my unhandled exception error as well. Thanks heaps.
Can you tell me is it possible for your program to recognise AVI files and for it to download the necessary metadata and cover art for viewing in Vista Media Centre? At the moment I can't view any movies in AVI format through my DVD library in Vista MC and the only movies that come up in your program are the ones in VOB format.

The latest version solved my unhandled exceptions as well, and I was able to edit all of my DVD's. Great job on this app! One issue I did note is that I have three seperate shares for my DVD's, one for the kids, one for the adults, and yet a third as well. I had to leave only one share listed under the shares to scan, else it would only scan the first and not the other two?
Every once in a while when clicking on the Amazon Search I would get an unhandled exception, but I could click continue, and then continue. The only thing it would not bring up would be the picture. I would then save the dvd info, then research amazon again to get it to show the picture, save the info, save the image and then save and move on to the next dvd.
Thanks for the work on this!

Unfortunately VMC doesn't keep metadata for AVIs or any other video types except DVDs. I hope they will change that with the next version of Media Center.

I will make some improvements to the exception handling, Amazon sometimes acts up and you need to try it again. I will have it so it doesn't prompt you too much when there's an exception.
About the network shares, are you saying that when you included all 3 shares to scan it only scans the first 1 but when you include only one share it scans all 3? I will do some testing on network shares today and try to find out what's happening.

Actually, if I include all three it only scans one, so I end up listing just one share at a time which works. Once I finish working on that share, I just take it out, and add in the next. Not a huge deal, breaks up the work load :)

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1
Great program, just what i needed.
Looking forward to the possibilty to specify which folders to scan, not just the ones that are monitored by the VMC DVD Library. I want to be able to edit the info thu remote desktop (multiple sessions).

I am using it with netowrk shares, 4 different drives on one server and have no problems.

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1
I will add the option to scan any folder for DVDs. I have a long weekend ( Thansksgiving in Canada ) so I will add this option and DVD chapters. I hope to have IMDB lookup also within the next few days.

The option to check any folder would definitly be cool. It means I would be able to run the tool from my Windows Server 2003 host, which stores all of my dvd's.

There would be a small problem with that. Right now the DVD meta data is actually stored on the VMC machine. Only a small part (an ID pointing to the meta data) is actually stored with the DVD folder. I may have to add an option to save the meta data to a different folder (either a network share to the VMC folder or to a totally different folder in which case you need to manually copy the files to the VMC folder). It also needs to read the data from that custom folder also. So it will be a bit of work but let me think about it (have kind of an 'Offline' mode).

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1
I uploaded a new version, 0.5.0.1. This version includes a IMDB Search dialog, very similar to the Amazon search one. This is my first pass at it so please let me know if you encounter any problems.
There a few things to remember:
- IMDB search is a bit slower than Amazon search so please have patience. You can always close the dialog or cancel the lookup.
- IMDB search doesn't use a web service so I am parsing the data myself. Some data may not be exactly as I expect it since IMDB doesn't publish any standards. So thinks may change in the future but I will try to catch up with any changes.
- Cover Art images are very low resolution on IMDB, especially compared to Amazon

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1
I just want to say first off that this is the PERFECT application for me.
Since I load all DVDs to my file server and have 3 media centers pointed at the server, I was caught by the need to sync the DvdInfoCache folder. What I have done right now is use mklink and point the DvdInfoCache folder to a shared directory on my server. Now when I rip the files, all dvdid info is put in that directory on the server. The other media centers seem to be loading the information just fine (so far) like this...
Does anyone see a problem going this direction? I haven't been doing this long, so I just don't want to know before I go too far down this path just to find out it wasn't the best way.
At the moment, I have about 400 DVDs ripped and it doesn't take more than about 15 seconds to load the DVDLibary page.
Thanks for all the hard work. I will keep following this thread...

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1
I have uploaded a new version which allows you to save the metadata to a custom folder, different from the default DVDInfoCache (found in C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\eHome\DvdInfoCache).
You should be able to use the program now from a different computer. I strongly recommend that the custom folder is shared between the VMC computer and the 2nd computer (either by a network share or a symbolic link as Jitters suggested). Otherwise you'll end up with an organizational nightmare.
I have also changed the generation of new DVDIDs to follow yyyyMMdd-hhmmss##.XML.
I also strong recommend that you backup your DVDCacheFolder before trying this. You should probably backup once in a while anyways. That's why I store all the cover art in once central folder which I can backup anytime instead of the individual folder.jpg.

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1
Well, I had to reinstall vista on the ripping machine, but yesterday i got the huge eSATA disk where i can finish ripping my collection. Which is the best practise to move then the library to the HTPC? Use a custom folder for everything or just the covers?
Thanks for the great little application :)
