Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

    Stu Online:

I've recently built a media center PC with Vista Home Premium, and I discovered your TunerFree app as an excellent addition so I can completely do away with my Virgin Media cable TV service!

However, when I go to install the program, it comes up with an error saying 'this must be installed on Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate edition'.

Take a look at the site now. Version 1.6.4a has had the installer changed to work with fiji (as documented at Aaron Stebner's blog).

Please let me know how it goes

Thanks Martin, it installs perfectly now!

Just had a quick play with it, works very well! Brilliant app, just what I was looking for!

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

Version 1.7 of TunerFree MCE has been released. It contains a critical update. The BBC recently changed their site html, which stopped the screen scraping from working, and caused error messages to be displayed saying that the background process had an error. This new version resolves that issue.

The new version also adds support for Five content from the Demand Five site (http://demand.five.tv/Home.aspx). It integrates in a very similar way to ITV and C4.

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

I have this really wiered problem with playing iPlayer (BBC) videos through TunerFree MCE.

When I try to watch a BBC stream in full screen its as if the top left quarter of the video is being stretched to fit the whole screen.  Has anyone else experienced this ?

It works fine for the other channels though ?!

I get exactly the same thing and have had since the start.

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

I found an issue with 1.7 showing Five content that was no longer available or only available for money. Version 1.7.1 stops that from showing up. Removing the pay content may seem odd to some people, but since you need a mouse and keyboard to buy it, it doen't make sense through the 10 foot interface.

I wonder if it's an issue with your screen resolution. Do you have the same resolution inside VMC as on your desktop? I am wondering if it is trying to display it at a 1900x1200 desktop resolution while your VMC is running at 1024x768 or something like that.

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

My main desktop is running at 1024x768.  VMC however runs at the native resolution of my TV (Bravia x3500) which is 1920x1080.

I have found that there is a problem viewing the streams by using the BBCs website (it squashes the full screen stream so its got black bars top and bottom).  By putting the desktop to 1920x1080 it then runs correctly.  This is a different problem to streaming BBC programs using TunerFreeMCE though and thats obviously running under VMC @ 1920x1080.

If you run VMC and your desktop at the same resolution, does that change the behaviour?

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

I have tried it with the desktop also set at 1920x1080 and it works properly.
Strange how it works for the other channels without having to change the desktop rez first.  Must be something the BBC are doing differently.

Strangely I have noticed that my TV goes into 1080i (instead of 1080p) sometimes when using TunerFree MCE but not every time.

The way that the BBC video works is that media centre navigates to a web page which contains a flash player, and then you press OK twice to have flash play full screen. I suspect that flash gets confused between the current resolution through VMC and the desktop resolution. It probably isn't written with the possibility of them being different in mind.

The rest of the video channels display through the native VMC video player, so don't exhibit the same issues.

I've had this happen on both the 1.5.4 version and the 1.6 beta.

    Cheers,

    CL

    CL, I can imagine this happening if the cache can't read or write to the cache file for whatever reason. The way you can test that is by turning off caching completely by first of all running the stop cache file in the Program Files/MillieSoft/TunerFreeMCE folder, and then editing the registry to set useCache to 0 as described here;
    http://www.milliesoft.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=18&Itemid=11

When you do all that, it will take longer to start, but will not try to access any local files.

    Martin

Tried this last night with 1.6 - worked fine, and now have access to all channels.

Any idea why it might not be writing to the cahce file?

    Thanks

    -CL

I have the same problem with a fresh instalaion of TunerFree 1.7 on a brand new Home Premium machine. It keeps giving me a "Invalid Application: Cannot launch iPlayer".
I have ran both Stop* apps and tried setting the useCache setting to 0 in the registry (for some reason that was already there), even rebooted my PC, but it is still giving me this problem.

Any idea what else I could try?

Is it normal that with useCache at 0, the first screen should still show "Loading Cache"?
Is it normal that the registry only has 2 settings (useCache=0 and deferredCache=1) and all others mentionned on the milliesoft website are not there?)

It's possible that the application is not installed properly. Uninstall it, and reinstall it as an administrator and don't change the install directory.

Yes, that is normal. None of the registry entries are created by default.

I am running at 720p both on my desktop and in VMC, I still get the problem. Unfortunately it makes watching BBC iPlayer thru VMC unwatchable.
