One more hoorah for the project!
I was checking out what was on hold @ google code and the Automatic metadata/cover art retrieval stuck out. I have something worth checking out, who do I get in touch with? I don't want to accidentally post the wrong stuff in the wrong place. Thanks!

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted

Hello, I have just joined TGB as I have just upgraded my PC to Vista Ultimate and decided to hook it up to my TV for the Media Centre. After hours of searching, I have finally found what I’m looking for!!! OML looks like it is going to be amazing!!!!!

Is there a possibility of any sort of beta installer? or a compiled version i can put in place?

    Cheers,

Did you read the entire post? This question is asked and answered more than once ;-)

You can make an installer from the source yourself, but you have to have at least a little bit of knowledge in this area, or else, you can wait, just like most of us ;-)

Yeah sorry, I know others have asked and the answer is generally to compile it yourself. I’m just a bit scare of putting the dev environment on my machine as the last time i did, it (more than likely my own fault, being incapable) killed my machine and had to reinstall my OS.

Is it a dead set no then I guess?

    Thanks for your reply! :)

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted

At this time we don't have an official release because too many pieces are yet to be completed.  We're working to complete something as soon as we can.  These posts are mainly to keep the public aware of what we're working on and what new features are being developed.  I can't give a timeline for the first release, but I can say that once it is ready we'll be doing much faster, shortly, quicker releases after that.  Its just that the first release has to support so many things just to be "fully functional".

radeonorama I can recommend installing VMware or VirtualPC to be able to create a dev environment on your pc without messing with anything.

    Thanks for the idea KingManon!

I know, feel the same way :)

People on the project have different priorities and not equal time to put in the project. And that's the way it should be. All developers are in this to learn and of course boost their personal ego by making the best VMC movie plugin ;)

So again, hang tight, as soon as the first release is made, updates will come more often.

    Good work.

You don't have to wait if you don't want to ;-)  The code is all out there and you can compile and run what we are all using.  However there are many steps to doing this and its not very fun if you don't really plan on doing any development ;-)

But if you want to keep up with the status, and so you know we're still working, you can see the commit log here.
    http://code.google.com/p/open-media-library/source/list

if you're a RSS feed junky like me you can subscribe to the commits
    http://code.google.com/feeds/p/open-media-library/svnchanges/basic

and we always have the forums where I waste way to much of my day.

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted

Just bumping this thread since it's fallen to page two. Smile [:)]

I've been watching this project closely, as it's exactly what I've been looking for. I love the UI!

Right now I'm just doing a straight rip of my DVDs as folders with the VOB files, onto a server with a RAID 5 array. I just wanted to take a physical DVD collection and virtualize it with a nice UI. I'm currently using the built in DVD Library functionality, but it gets dog slow once you have a lot of DVDs. I've centralized my DvdInfoCache folder on the server, and wrote an app to view/edit my DVD collection metadata. I also save cover art locally (folder.jpg). Together this keeps Media Center from hitting the web service for metadata and cover art. Even with this speed improvement, DVD Library is still really slow!

I've avoided MyMovies because the feature set seemed overkill (changer support, etc). I just want a good UI on top of a clean and simple metadata/database backend. I don't need to publish my collection online, community features, etc... I'd much rather see a project focus on the actual core usability of the product without a lot of bloat. Despite a lot of people liking MyMovies, I just can't get past the fact that it doesn't have a native UI.

Just wanted to chime in and say keep up the good work! (and give a little background on my current setup) I may try to compile from source at some point, but I will likely wait until a stable release is ready. For me, this DVD library functionality is the centerpiece feature of my Media Center!

MostlyHarmless: For some of us that do have the DVD megachangers we need the support from OML to control them.

The whole reason I started this whole media center thing is because I purchased the changer and wanted an easier way to be able to control it other than the built in UI Sony gives you.

I think it would be a terrible waste for alot of guys not to build the changer support into OML and yes I know it's on the contemplated feature list.

OML dudes: Thanks for all the hard work you guys!!! It's looking very good!!!

changer support will be in eventually, definitely not in the first release but in a future release.

Are we getting somewhat closer yet to a release?  It's been three months and I'm still patiently waiting :)  I'd compile it on my own, but dread to install MyMovies just to setup the library, especially considering the last time I did it create havoc for my entire library of DVD's :)
