    I am having a similar problem, but the message "Invalid Application: iplayer" occurs when I select any channel in the menu.

    Restarting both VMC and my PC doesn't seem to fix it.

    All channels play fine in IE. This is really frustrating as this looks like a fantastic piece of software, but it just isn't working for me at all.

    Any ideas how I can fix this?

    CL, what version are you using?

    Martin

    I've had this happen on both the 1.5.4 version and the 1.6 beta.

    Cheers,

    CL, I can imagine this happening if the cache can't read or write to the cache file for whatever reason. The way you can test that is by turning off caching completely by first of all running the stop cache file in the Program Files/MillieSoft/TunerFreeMCE folder, and then editing the registry to set useCache to 0 as described here;

    When you do all that, it will take longer to start, but will not try to access any local files.

    Will try this later when I get home and report back.

    Tried this last night with 1.6 - worked fine, and now have access to all channels.

    Any idea why it might not be writing to the cahce file?

    Thanks

    I'm glad it works for you like that. I am not sure why it can't write to the cache file. Do you run with an administrator account, or a regular user? Do you have any setup that you might think is unusual?

    I'm running as an admin. Should I try changing the path to the cache to put it somewhere else?

    Purely cosmetic, but I created these icons for an open-source project called MediaPortal a while ago - they may be of use to you to make the application look "better":

    You can certainly try that, see if it helps. Let me know how it goes please.

    Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

    Hi, I have had problems recently with the plugin. the tunerFreeMCE cache builder pops up, but stops before it does anything, then windows pops up with a message saying "tunerFreeMCE cache builder stopped working" and asks me to close the program, or check for a solution.

    I also get annoyed when it pops up while I'm busy browsing the internet or busy with something outside of media center. i do not need it to build a cache all of the time, only when i am actually in media center.

    Is there any way you can get it to only build a cache when media center is open?

    Regards

    Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

    I have released a new version, 1.6.2 - out of beta, so thanks to all of you who spent time testing the earlier versions. It has several important features;

    1) BBC have been moving their programs over to only working on their new player. I have finally managed to produce a version of that player suitable for use in media centre (3 weeks work on and off!) - i.e. it auto plays and it goes full screen via the mouse. This new player should also bring higher resolution feeds (although I can't see the difference myself - perhaps they are not live yet). One thing to note is that programs in your cache may point to the old player and so not play if they were only available from the new BBC feed. That should not be an issue after a week, since they are removed from the cache after that time, but if you want to watch them, delete the cache file (in C:\Users\{you}\AppData\Local\MillieSoft\TunerFreeMCE

    2) The download link now goes to the new iPlayer pages

    3) The background cache window should just be a blip now since it hides itself as soon as it opens. Not as good as never opening, but the best I can do for now folks

    4) For those of you who don't like the cache, there are 4 programs you can run to change the way it works;

    StartLiveCache - sets the system to cache the data only when you launch theTunerFree MCE program

    StopLiveCache - sets the system to never use a cache and query all programs when it loads each time

    StartOfflineCache (default) - sets the system to cache in the background every hour

    StopOfflineCache - turns off the background cache

    As always, feedback is welcome

    P.S. is anyone else having major forum issues? I had to post a dummy entry and edit it to get this entry to not end on a 404 error.

    Hi Martin

    Just wanted to say thanks for this excellent plugin - I love the addition of the ITV/C4 streams which work fine on the 360 extender - the BBC streams don't work due to being flash video but that's their issue not yours.

    Couple of things:

    1) Are you able to sort episodes by date aired? If I say look at ITV1 - episodes of Emmerdale or Corrie are scattered all over the place but are tagged with the original air date.

    2) Any plans for Demand five to be added? They seem to be using the same WM streams as ITV/C4.

    Keep up the excellent work!!

    No, you can't sort by date aired at the moment, but if you click the option to group the episodes, they should at least all be together.

    I didn't know that Five had an on-demand service. Damn Sad [:(]. That's more work to do now.

    Thanks for the feedback though

    Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

    Unfortunately, even using your new version: 1.6.3 from the site, I can't use iplayer at all.

    I get "unable to launch iplayer" when I try to group episodes.

    This aside, whenever trying to play any iplayer file I get "Something went wrong"

    Any advice as to what I can do to get it up and working?

    Thanks for all your efforts and in advance for your help

    EDIT: Ok, deleted the cache file in C:\Users\{you}\AppData\Local\MillieSoft\TunerFreeMCE and then reinstalled and the player works....

    BUT, still get the same error message when trying to group by episode. Do I have to install iplayer now :S never did before.

    Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

    dysphasi, glad deleting the cache fixed most of your issues. Unfortunately the changes that the BBC made recently meant that the contents of the cache no longer worked.

    I don't know why the grouping of episodes gives an error for you. It works OK for me. I wonder if it is something to do with one of the program names causing an exception or something like that.
