Hate when people tease you.Big Smile [:D]...hehe. Looking forward to this....

I hope by saying this, that the Extender will be able to work/read/play with VOB DVD files too.....

Re: DVD Library coming to an Extender near you

Would this approach, if slightly changed, trick media center into allowing playback of other file types, such as xvid, through DVD Library?

Re: DVD Library coming to an Extender near you

So I read the how to.  What is not clear, and I don't think this hack is actually allowing, is whether the DVD Menu's are apart of this.  It seems like it is tricking the extender to play VOB by having it see it as MPEG files while the DVD Library still sees a VOB.  Then a video playlist plays all the correct VOB files in order.

Is that is, or am I missing something?  I thought it was going to be the whole DVD experience.  If for some reason it's not then it will not be worth it to switch from MyMovies.  This is to much work per movie to not have the whole experience.

Again this is FOR ME and my taste.  Very cool that someone can enable the DVD Library for extenders and make it actually work.  Just tells me that Microsoft can do it too (but easier).

    Few questions:

1.) Do we have to enable DVD library on our main machine or does the transcoder file do that as well?

2.) How do you add a share to the DVD library?  Is this an option when you setup the DVD Library?

3.) If you rip all your DVD's to a single VOB do you have to create the playlist?

I wish I could set this up right now but Grey's Anatomy is taping and if that fails or stops my wife will never forgive me.

    1. Go here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930526

    2. Yes once enabled, you can Add Folders to Watch

    3.  I would assume that you would only need to create the Symbolic Link for the single .vob so that the extender sees a .wvx, but I would like confirmation on this as well.

WARNING: Do not create symbolic links on Windows Home Server Shares! They don't work and wreak havoc on the server because of the way that the drive extender works!!

The way I interpret that warning is I cannot use this how-to because my movies are all stored on my Windows Home Server. Am I right?

The Script in the instructions to auto create seems to give me an error.  Did anyone get it to work?

Re: DVD Library coming to an Extender near you

Something of note, the fsutil command has to be run on a local ntfs drive, you cannot run it on a remote share.  Luckily my server with all the DVD's is Win2k8 Server, and I was able to create the symbolic link.

I see the DVD Library on my 360 Extender, but when trying to play I get the VIDEO error.

*EDIT*  Nevermind, I got it working.  It was a dreaded ID 10 T error.

Could the given script be wrapped to scan an entire drive, and make the list automatically for all dvd's?

Re: DVD Library coming to an Extender near you

If you really want your movies on WHS, you can create a directory structure on your Vista box that mirrors the WHS structure.  You would create the links on the Vista machine pointing to the WHS shared folders and you should be in good shape.

Looking at the script, isn't that what it does, creates a wxs for each directory?

well that and it creates the symbolic link from mpeg to vob.
