I've found several ways to crash this program, but unfortunately no way to make it work.

I ALSO COULDN'T GET IT TO INSTALL

dvr2wmv for mce comes up blue screen with " installing " in the middle and then hangs, please help I would love to get to use this software, what am I not doing right

dvr2wmv standalone works but the converted video is upside down, maybe if I can sove that problem the mce version will work, ok please help

What Version og Media Center are you using? I read in an article that this really only supports the newer 2005 MCE and NOT the older versions. I"m attempting to use it right now. I"m converting a file, if I have a problem after it's done, then I"ll post it here. If not, then it means this programs works as promised!!

Regarding missing files on install... I found that if you let WinXP auto unzip the file you lose permissions over certain files and they report as missing on install. Use a different application to unzip the download like WinZip and the installer should run complete.

i've been trying divert program's including dvr2wmv and so on, always the transcoding doesn't work, it seems that this dvr2wmv doesn't work on a few of computers. I would be delighted if somebody could follow this problem up and post their solutions here. Regards

To get this to install make sure you uncompress the entire package... The files are all zipped togther when you recieve them if you try and install them wihout unzipping the package the Install will fail.

I used winrar to unzip it and it installed fine, which is odd because like many earlier before back in may I couldnt get this program to work, now it is working. Im only using the standalone part of this though havent tried the other part. I just need it to convert dvr to wmv, so far it has worked for me.

oh hell ***. Its so simple. All my problems with the connection filter stuff was solved when i deinstalled the intervideo dvd player software (and of course their codec) and set the cyberlink codec as preferred. Now its working (even if the quality isn't very good in wmv and the videos is not scaled anymore)

Excellent advise!!. thank You. It's true I got the connection filter stuff and all that's needed is to uninstall Intervideo Win DVD. I'm still converting, hope it works all right.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!READ THIS IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If the installation hangs, simply unpack ALL the files in THE SAME DIRECTORY (You will have in that directory a Program Files folder a the instal). Now run the instal and voila ;). btw great work.

Hey guys, could somebody help me out. I'm in Switzerland so i've got PAL (right?) But when i took either the cbr or vbrPAL.prx (or some ending) it cuts something like 30 pixel of the bottom when i convert to wmv! I tried to change every value, but noething happens! Who knows why? Regards

errors when starting the conversion. saying that it is attempting to read or write protected memory.

i need a little help i keep gettin and error message which says "error converting- object reference not set to and instance of an object" if this makes any sense to anyone please help the program worked fine for the first couple of weeks after i downloaded its been about a month since i used the program last and now it doesnt work for some reason

I had to download it twice because of an error unpacking. Used Winrar to repair the file then was able to unpack without problems. Installed Works like a charm and the picture is as good as the original on standard tv. Takes a long time to encode, but solves all my problems. Thanks

Have been using it with the orignal version of MCE and it works. I only use the stand alone version, sometimes it hangs, but only if I try to do multiple files at one time.

I initially had missing files too. Make sure you unzip "using Folder Names" or the path needed during install will not be found and thus you get a missing file...

I got it working without a problem last night. Very cool interface. Though you can't do anything about it, it is a very slow process. It took me 4 hours to convert a movie to WMV. Worked well otherwise.

Program works fine even if you decompress it with just windows' built in zip decompressor as long as you uninstall Intervideo Win DVD!

I had the same "No combination of intermediate filters could be found..." error. In the standalone mode, change compatibility to yes. This solved the problem for me.

Just downloaded I set to PAL constant, since I am in UK. when I hit start I get Error Converting File The program will now exit Object Reference not set to an instance of an object. at dvrwmv.CCDvr2WMVClass.StartConversion() at DVR2WMVFE.Conversion.Start() at Test1.Form1.ConvertFile()

The zip file seems corrupt. When I try to unzip it using Winrar I get a error. Is there another download area or site for this?

It seems to be working fine for me. I extracted the zip by selecting both the folder and the DVR 2 WMV.msi file and extracting to the C: drive (root) using preserving file/folder names (whatever it is called in your .zip utility, I use 7zip and not winzip. So then you end up with a file called DVR 2 WMV.msi in the root of yuor C: drive and a folder in your "program files" folder called "Griffin Composites". I just double clicked on the msi file mentioned above and it installed slicker 'n shite. Then I just went to my start, programs and the program was listed all the way down at the bottom of the programs called DVR 2 WMV. I started the standalone version just fine, selected a dvr.ms movie and it is cooking right now. It is working on a 13 GB file, so it is taking a while, it is up to about 4% finished since I started trying to figure out how to post this message and typed it out. BTW, why the heck doesn't this "add comment" block show up in Firefox browser? I'm surprised that this site's html is not compliant enough to show up correctly in other browsers.

There is a good program called SUPER© that will convert DVR-MS to WMV, allows you to set the bit-rates, size, crop, aspect, everything. And, it's FREEWARE. Plus, it will convert just about any VID format to any other format. REALLY! Check it out... www.erightsoft.net

I was able to install after unzipping to a folder. Converts fine.

To get around the error you have to extract the files to a regular folder and then install.

Installs properly (or so I think), upon clicking start just becomes un-responsive.

When trying to install I get the foll. error msg. Application has generated an exception that could not be handled. Process id=0x528(1320) Thread id=0x1c4(452).

Excellent product.. if it doesn't work first time, don't forget you have to set the decoders in Options!

this program worked beautifully. I have installed it on 4 computers, and on all 4 computers it worked perfectly. Reinstalled windows on those computers, reinstalled the program and now I can't get it to work. Keeps saying "class not registered" and closes. makes no sense. Have converted over 300 files with it, and then... after a reinstall, nothing.

After installing it as jbrooks544 suggested and it worked. Also critical is setting up the decoder. Once I did that, it started to work, but the blue bar instantly jumped across the progress window and it just hangs, saying it hasn't converted anything, but is working on it. The file is just 8.99KB and there's nothing in it.

well, i did what you've all been saying! And yep, it converts it alright! But like someone said earlier: its upside down!! How weird! Solution anyone...? Please??

Works GREAT! make sure you have XP service pack 2. I have a 3 ghz dual core processor and 1 gig of ram. Flawless install and operation. Converted and then edited in Windows Movie Maker. Thanks

If anyone was thinking of trying DVR 2 WMV on Vista it works. I spent all day trying to get AutoDVRConvert to work on Vista with no luck, again this one works. thanks for the program. It would be nice if it could monitor dvr-ms folders but still thanks

the way to get this to work is to install it exactly the way jbrooks544 described above. But do not delete the msi file on the root drive. And yes, it will eventually break, as Mariner has stated, but i found if you right click .msi file, and select the repair, it will work again (for a while). small price to pay for a good program.

After unzipping/installing at the root (C:\), I changed Options>Compatibility to Yes, it worked for me too. That's all I had to do.

Tried to install on brand new HP laptop 3-5-07. Many errors during installation, had to abort. Any ideas? DVRToolbox won't work either. I usually use Tsunami Mpeg DVD author which supports DVR-ms conversion, but for an unknow reason, this file will only convert 11 secs. I am trying to convert 2 hours of "rome" to mpeg to burn.

I've gotten it to work but there are a few bugs, nits and features I'd like to see... any chance of geting the source code?

I had the same problems as most of you for hours ! But now it's OK. First, you have to unzip the file downloaded using winzip. Be careful, all the content of the file must be unzipped in the same folder. Secondly, open this folder and run the msi file (the file DVR2WMV with the "setup icon"). The software is now set up. Then, open DVR2WMV standalone from your windows start menu. There: in options --> change "compatibility mode" to yes, then set the decoders in "choose select decoders". And It's OK !!! What a wonderful product ! You just have to select the file to encode and START ... You can select the quality of encoding in "options" too.

FOR THOSE OF YOU HAVING INSTALL PROBLEMS....Start browsing out to the file that it can't find the the temporary folder copy the "program files" folder to that location and then click retry in the error window

This is a much needed tool but is pretty weak. The MCE UI has no status and the standalone takes way to long to convert on a dual proc 2.8 Ghz box.

on highest priority, Im getting about 1:30 converted per 2:00. Great tool.

FOR ALL THOSE HAVING PROBLEMS: you can unzip to any location, but copy the folder "Griffin Composites" from within the unzipped "Program Files" folder into the Program Files folder of your Windows installations. THEN run the msi installer. I decoded the first WMV with no pronlem. I am now decoding a 4 GB file (Copa Oro, United States vs. Guatemala) as a WMV with the "compatibility mode" checked as Yes. I don't even know what that does, but it works. I am using the "Standalone" link from the Programs->DVR2WMV menu.

After a little trial and error on my part, I got it installed and it's working fine. My problem was not extracting all the files before installing - that's my helpful hint to those having installation issues. Hope it helps! I'm still on XP Media - don't want to attempt Vista until I'm forced to do so.

Has everyone actually read the usage at the top of the screen? "Usage: Unzip, run the MSI file to install. Open DVR2WMV Standalone from your Windows Start Menu, and click Options | Choose Preferred Decoders. Select either WinDVD’s or PowerDVD’s decoders (InterVideo or Cyberlink). NVIDIA's decoders will not work correctly." Note the unzip before running, and selecting the decoder before converting files.

it doesnt work on vista cant find there there codecs i trid it on xp and its work with 1 file and 1 file not i guess it problem with the file cuase another program couldnt convert the file too

Seems to do great in my book. The only thing is that the MCE-style interface program crashed on me, but the standalone is great, and seems to be converting my TV recording, at almost a snail's pace (like 2 minutes of elapsed time to convert 1 minute of video), I've seen faster with other commercial conversion software.

great program, but it makes my computer kinda noisy o>.<o it doesn't make my computer lag, but it just takes up more cpu usage

also takes a while ( the shows i'm taking the commecials out & converting are about 35 min long). takes about 15 min. to convert.

Read the thread top to bottom. Followed the instructions exactly. Hangs at 22 seconds of decoded video at 100% CPU! This site still rocks!

after conversion i am unable to use the fast forward and rewind buttons when i play it in MCE or in WMP11. also how do i know when the video is finished converting? there is no way to tell

Eureka! Works like a charm using Stand Alone module with Compatibility Mode enabled. Not terribly fast, but did not overheat my CPU like a product costing $40. So, I'll just plan to convert files when I am away from the computer for a while! This is GREAT! Bravo Zulu! (Good Job/Kudos)

Okay. I got it up quickly. The hints above helped plus I fixed the "class not registered" error. 1. Extract all files anywhere. 2. Copy the Griffen Composites folder to your Program Files directory. 3. Run the "DVR 2 WMV" installer (from where you unzipped it to is fine). 4. Run "DVR 2 WMV Standalone" from your Start menu 5. Under Options set Compatibility Mode to "Yes" (I didn't try it the other way but was following a tip above). 6. Under Options pick Choose Prefered Decode (this is how I fixed the class problem and click Video to select a decoder from the list then do the same for Audio. 7. Click Add File(s) button to obviously add files you want to decode. 8. Under options pick Choose Output Directory for output. I hope this helps.

On my XP SP2 (MCE 2005RU2) machine I found the following: 1. The MCE "version" crashes when there are multiple "Recorded TV" that contain .dvr-ms files. 2. Works great so far using FFDSHOW filters to convert 480p files to .WMV. 3. Works great so far using FFDSHOW filters to convert HD files (720/1080) to .WMV. 4. The quality of the converted .WMV files is very very good.

Is there a solution for DVR2WMV "stopping" or "hanging" after doing 1 conversion? I am getting this on both the MCE & Standalone version.

Anyone getting the green bar at the bottom of vids then you just need to select your correct tv settings (Pal or NTSC)

I did what one of the guys said, and installed to the C:\ and I'm converting a file right now. Can't say how long it's going to take but it looks like it works. I'll post the result here.

Everything unzipped fine, and installed without problem. But whether I used the MCE integral version or the stand alone version, both would start up, but would lock up as soon as I started the conversion process. I have and XP SP2 with MCE. RAM is 1G. Processor is AMD 64 processor 3800+ . Maybe sets with more power can get this to work. Didn't work for me.
