This blog details my experiences and those of my family living with Media Center, as well as my professional experiences working for or with companies for the past five years to develop and advance the Media Center platform.

From time to time you'll see the "Spousal Acceptance Factor" pop up in these forums. CEDIA dealers know this phenomenon well - the idea that one spouse wants the system but the other must concur in order to move forward.

    We've all been there.

I don't know if this episode of Designing Spaces will help out at all, but it made my wife more interested in what I do for a living, and she responded to the section on parental controls. Is it just me, or does the subject of parental controls come up on the Green Button like, never? I understand why, given the audience, but it is a powerful feature of Media Center.

The real miracle of this show (full disclosure here: I helped work on it) is that after viewing it, my octagenarian father and mother actually understood what Media Center is, and asked me two questions about it:

    1. Does it get the eBay?

(They always put the article "the" in front of technology they are suspicious of, but interested in. For years they asked me if they should get email with the Yahoo.)

Sure, I told them, I can get the eBay going for you.

    2. Can you put it on our DVD player?

    I'll keep trying.

    Good times, peeps.

    Pete
