Microsoft: “Not currently in talks with Sony or the Blu-ray Association”

After all of my ramblings, and so many people saying that Microsoft already said they are supporting Blu-ray (despite it being true at all) Microsoft has finally made a statement about Blu-ray and the Xbox 360.  Anyone care to guess how it goes?

Aaron Greenberg (Group product manager for Xbox 360) said: "Xbox is not currently in talks with Sony or the Blu-ray Association to integrate Blu-ray into the Xbox experience.”

Greenberg points to furthering digital distribution through the Xbox 360, another topic I have covered.  "We're the only console offering digital distribution of entertainment content.”

Comments?  I hate to say I told you so, but I think a lot of people were inclided to tell me no more than a week ago.

Microsoft is going to deny it until the day that support comes out, if it ever does. That's SOP for most companies. There's not really much to read into it either way.

Lanier, Unlike so many others, I think you have been bang-on about this the whole time.  BD-J is a tough pill for MS to swallow.  Your assertion that maybe the Xbox 720 would have blue-ray was bang-on as well.  I think MS is perfectly fine with DVD's for game media and pushing Downloads for hi-def movies in this generation.  There is still enough time before the 720 comes out for ms to decide blue-ray or not.

in all honesty, I don't really care if the 360 does blue or not, I do however, want native playback in mce. Any idea when that will happen?  Fiji, Windows Seven?

Thanks,
Mark
