Engadget
has the details of HP’s new MediaSmart Receiver x280N which will have built-in
Media Center Extender functionality among other things. According to the article, it will support
DivX, Xvid, H.264, MPEG-2, AAC and more.
It will support 802.11a/b/g/n and also includes support for HP’s Pocket
Media Drive.
No pricing has been released, but I’d expect it to be more
than current offerings by $100 or so. If
that’s right, it will be a bit expensive to bother with.
HP will also be offering a new
set of MediaSmart HDTVs with integrated Extenders as expected. A software update will be offered by existing
models. No timeline given, but CES might
bring that news.
Update: Ian
has got some good shots of the unit up.
Very small, very sleek.
Gizmodo
is reporting it will be $300, yet no other media outlet or blog has said
anything about price. This is odd as I
believe their information came directly from a simple press release which didn't include any pricing information.
