Remote, Velocity Micro will be shipping a Windows Home Server with the rest of the Windows Home Server launch. Engadget
has got a nice image of the planned box, and specs it out as “Intel Conroe-like
processor with DDR2 RAM, SATA II (with NCQ), gigabit Ethernet, [and] eSATA. It will launch with "extremely
competitive price,” and my guess is it will be a hit. Velocity Micro currently has the best
CableCARD PCs hands down, and they have proven themselves in new markets. Six months ago I had never heard of Velocity
(as I’m not a gamer, which was their main market), and today if I had to purchase
a pre-built PC or a CableCARD PC, Velocity Micro would be on the very top of
the list.
More info on Velocity Micro upcoming Home Server includes it
being designed for vertical or horizontal placement, enterprise-class design in
regards to thermals, and will of course be configured with several terabytes of
storage.
I can’t wait to see all the various
Windows Home Servers to launch, and I hope that the price points are
right. The one killer of numerous
Microsoft products has been price.
Windows Home Server is a great idea and it works well, now lets see the
finished products.
